     Christopher Murray teaches music analysis at the Université libre de Bruxelles. His research is mainly concerned with French and Belgian music since the nineteenth century with particular focus on the music of Olivier Messiaen, musical life during the Second World War, music and musicians in Brussels, and composition traditions at the Paris Conservatory. Murray directed the collective volume Musical Life in Belgium during the Second World War. With Yves Balmer and Thomas Lacôte he has authored a comprehensive study of Messiaen’s musical borrowings: Le modèle et l’invention: Olivier Messiaen et la technique d’emprunt (Symétrie, forthcoming), and with Anne-Sylvie Barthel-Calvet he is currently preparing a collective volume for Routledge on renewing the historiography of European post-war avant-garde composers.
